Cottbus/ Ballymena, 25. April 2024. Wrightbus, Pionier für emissionfreie Busse, hat einen seiner bisher größten Aufträge in Deutschland für Wasserstoffbusse gewonnen: Die Cottbusverkehr GmbH und ihre Tochtergesellschaft, die Spree-Neiße-Cottbusverkehr GmbH, orderten zusammen 46 „Kite Hydroliner” aus Nordirland. Die zwölf Meter langen Eindecker-Busse spielen eine wichtige Rolle für das Mobilitätsmodell im Rahmen des „Wasserstoff-Regionen-Projekts” in der Lausitz. Einen Ausschlag für die Kaufentscheidung gab ein Demo-Bus, der bei Tiefsttemperaturen von Belfast über Dublin, dann weiter auf dem Seeweg bis Rotterdam und von dort aus nach Cottbus gefahren war – und dort pünktlich ankam.
Den Vertragsabschluss hat Cottbusverkehr heute im Rahmen des Projektstarts für die erste Wasserstofftankstelle in der Lausitz bekanntgegeben. Sie entsteht am Betriebshof des Unternehmens und gilt als Meilenstein für die Wasserstoffmobitität und damit für den Strukturwandel in der Lausitz. Diese ist bekannt als traditionsreiches Braunkohle-Revier und befindet sich im Strukturwandel.
Cottbusverkehr ist der führende ÖPNV-Anbieter in der Stadt Cottbus und dem westlichen Landkreis Spree-Neiße. Die „Kite Hydroliner”werden die ersten Wasserstoffbusse im Bestand sein. Das Unternehmen mit seinen 278 Mitarbeitenden verfügt über einen Fuhrpark von 75 Fahrzeugen (inklusive Straßenbahnen).
3 Millionen Kilometer Fahrstrecke (Wagenkilometer) legen allein die Omnibusse pro Jahr im Stadt- und Regionalverkehr zurück, und das in einem rund 320 km2 großen Einzugsgebiet. Gesellschafterin von Cottbusverkehr ist die Stadt.
„Cottbusverkehr wird 11 Kite Hydroliner in den Bestand nehmen für den Stadtverkehr in und um Cottbus”, erklärte Ralf Thalmann, Geschäftsführer von Cottbusverkehr. 35 Wasserstoffbusse wird die Spree-Neiße-Cottbusverkehr GmbH übernehmen und in 2025 schrittweise für den Nahverkehr in Spree-Neiße-Ost zum Einsatz bringen. Das ist ein großer Schritt in der Lausitz hin zu einem klimaneutralen Personennahverkehr. Wir freuen uns auf die Zusammenarbeit mit Wrightbus. Mit dem Aufbau eines grünen Wasserstoff-Clusters hier im Braunkohlerevier Lausitz wird ein Ökosystem geschaffen, in dem Wasserstoff als klimaneutraler Energieträger im ÖPNV alle Vorteile ausspielen kann.“
„Kite Hydroliner” sind mit ihrer hohen Reichweite von bis zu 720 Kilometern prädestiniert für lange Fahrstrecken. Das Volltanken dauert weniger als zehn Minuten. Bis zu 90 Passagiere finden in den Einzeldeck-Bussen Platz. Die Busse für Cottbusverkehr entsprechen den hohen Anforderungen des VDV (Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen) und der European General Safety Regulation (GSR2).
Der Auftrag aus Cottbus ist bereits der vierte bedeutende Deal für Wrightbus in Deutschland. Das Unternehmen mit Sitz im nordirischen Ballymena rückt damit seinem Ziel näher, eine weitere Region im globalen Markt für nachhaltigen Verkehr zu erobern. Lieferverträge sind bereits unterzeichnet mit der Saarbahn GmbH (Saarbrücken, 28 Busse), mit WestVerkehr (Geilenkirchen, zwölf Busse) und mit der Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK, 20 Busse plus 40 optional). Damit summiert sich die „Kite Hydroliner”-Flotte auf Deutschlands Straßen perspektivisch auf mehr als 140.
